Special hibiscus varieties at Heinje: ‘Big Hibiskiss®’ and ‘Little Hibiskiss®’

Hibiscus lovers can choose between large blooms or compact plants

With its vibrant flowers, hibiscus brings a touch of exotic summer flair to any garden – and all without requiring much maintenance. This versatile plant impresses with its bright colours, hardiness, and long flowering period, offering strong selling points for garden retailers. Heinje nursery offers two very special Hibiscus syriacus varieties: the well-established ‘Big Hibiskiss’ and its brand-new “little brother”, ‘Little Hibiskiss’. Each has its own unique advantages, but both share the special qualities that make hibiscus so popular.

Those who love large flowers will be thrilled with ‘Big Hibiskiss’: this variety produces extra-large blooms with a diameter of around 18 cm in a vibrant pink with a deep red centre. These stunning flowers appear from July through to September, ensuring bright splashes of colour even when many other plants are starting to fade. The rich, dark green foliage makes the flower colour stand out even more. Thanks to its upright, narrow growth habit, ‘Big Hibiskiss’ is ideal for planting in pots but also looks great in garden beds. This robust, winter-hardy hibiscus prefers a sunny to partially shaded location. In retail, the concept is supported with eye-catching promotional materials and imagery, as well as printed pots. ‘Big Hibiskiss’ is available from Heinje nursery in pot sizes of 3.4L, 6L, 10L, and 16.5L.

If you have limited space or simply prefer compact plants, the new ‘Little Hibiskiss’ is the perfect choice. This hibiscus also delights with its strikingly beautiful flowers, which appear from July through to September. What makes it special is its compact growth – up to just 50 cm – making it ideal for pots on terraces and balconies or as a small standalone plant. Like its bigger sibling, ‘Little Hibiskiss’ thrives in sunny to partially shaded locations and is hardy down to –25°C. This new variety features white flowers with a bold deep red centre. At Heinje, it comes in a printed 3.4L pot, and its eye-catching label ensures attention at the point of sale.

Whether big or small – the two hibiscus varieties ‘Big Hibiskiss’ and ‘Little Hibiskiss’ bring a real holiday feeling into the garden with their striking flowers and are a must-have for any garden centre range.
